Gotham's third season ended with Bruce Wayne embracing the vigilante within, and it looks like he's now started down a path that will definitely be expanded upon in season 4.

At last week's SDCC roundtable, via Cinema Blend, the show's executive producer John Stephens confirmed that Bruce "will wear body armor and grappling hooks but he will not be Batman" when the show returns, but that "It's a little more of a Batman: Year One in a different setting."
Whilst not yet ready to throw on his cape and cowl, it seems that Bruce will start to learn all the tricks of his trade, slowly evolving into the Batman we know and love.
"I'd say visually, when you look at what Bruce is going to be doing this season, it's gonna look far closer to what our conception of Batman is definitely gonna be. You're also going to get to see him do very specific things, certain elements like when you watch Bruce Wayne acting like a playboy, we sort of ask the question how did he learn to do that so well. Well maybe there's a time that he wasn't pretending to be that and we actually play with a little bit of Bruce having a teenage spiral, where he enjoys the elements of being a billionaire with no parents in Gotham, that he can draw from later on to become the fake playboy."
Barbara Kean is dead.
Well, temporarily dead, and when she comes back in season 4 of Fox's ongoing Batman prequel show Gotham, we may not recognise the person she's become, according to the actress who plays Kean, Erin Richards.
“She’s going to be a completely different character again,” Richards told comicbook at SDCC. “She’s coming back, she’s going to be trained by Ra’s al Ghul and she’s going to be a lot more calm and centered. Still trying to fight for power in Gotham against Penguin…but with a lot more clarity this time.”
Fighting for power means seeking support from a few of the other women making moves in the city, however.
“She’s going to form an alliance with Tabitha and Selina [Kyle]. We’re gonna have a bit of a female power base in Gotham which we’re really excited about.”
Richard admits that the fluidity of Barbara Kean means there's a lot to work with. “I feel so fortunate that Barbara has been particularly pronounced in that way, because she is one of the characters we don’t really know so much about, so we have more scope with that. She can change as much as we want her to because nobody has this fixed idea of who she must become.”
After Lee (Morena Baccarin) left town, and Jim Gordon, at the end of Gotham's third season, he'll be going down a "dark path" when the show returns, according to Entertainment Weekly.
They've grabbed this first look image of Jim's potential new girlfriend, Sofia Falcone, played by Teen Wolf's Crystal Reed. She's the daughter of Don Falcone, and it looks like she'll be spelling trouble with a capital T....
Gotham season 4 villains
"There are some villains that I’m a fan of that are in season four," he teased. "I’ve always been keen on the Scarecrow. It would be nice if the Scarecrow showed up."
Of course, fans of the show will recall the season 1 episodes The Fearsome Dr. Crane and The Scarecrow. Therein, we saw an origin story for Jonathan Crane, which ended with a young version of The Scarecrow being established.
Guest star Charlie Tahan played the role, and ended the second episode in a hospital bed. Young Jonathan was overloaded with fear serum, hallucinating about scary Scarecrows.
The SDCC trailer confirmed that Scarecrow will be making a comeback.
